Dr. Harinder Sandhu 

Dr. Sandhu received his initial dental training from Guru Nanak University in India and his Ph.D. in Anatomy in 1982 from the University of Ottawa. He received his Certificate in Periodontics in 1985 from Loma Linda University and was supported by MRC of Canada during his pre-doctoral and post-doctoral training. He joined Western in 1985 as a Career Scientist of the Ontario Ministry of Health, joined the Faculty of Dentistry in 1987 and was promoted to the rank of full professor in 1998. Dr. Harinder Sandhu is the Director and Vice-Dean of Schulich Dentistry at Western University and has served as the Chair of the Periodontics Division, and the Chair of the Admissions Committee in Dentistry and held the position of Director and Associate Dean in Schulich Dentistry since 2004. He served as Acting Director for two years and was recently appointed as the inaugural Vice-Dean, Dentistry in the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry. He has served as Chair of the Council of Deans (Dentistry) in Canada and President of the Association of Canadian Faculties of Dentistry and currently presents a leadership course to Dental Students.

In April 2012, Dr. Sandhu was awarded the ADEA/Sunstar Americas, Inc./Harry W. Bruce, Jr. Legislative Fellow Award from the Centre for Public Policy and Advocacy of ADEA; a three-month fellowship in Washington to gain first-hand experience working within the Congressional process on issues that relate to dental education, research and oral health. Dr. Sandhu received a previous fellowship from the ADEA in 2008-2009 and completed a year-long leadership institute program.

Dr. Sandhu has been a prolific researcher, especially in the area of periodontics, resulting in numerous academic awards and invitations to provide lectures on Periodontology worldwide. He has been recognized as a Fellow by the American College of Dentists and the International College of Dentists, Pierre Fauchard Academy and International Academy of Dentistry. He is currently focusing on collaborative initiatives with Semmelweis University Partnership, Government Relations & Collaboration with the University of Toronto Faculty of Dentistry, and External Relations (ACDF/ODA/CDRAF and Corporate Partners). Dr. Sandhu is an impassioned proponent of accessibility of oral health care to under-serviced populations. He maintains an active periodontal specialty practice and has published numerous papers on clinical outcomes of periodontal procedures:

Dr. Puneet Sunda (HBSc. DDS)

Dr. Puneet Sunda, HBSc. DDS Practice limited to Oral Surgery

Originally from Toronto, he graduated with distinction from York University. In 2002, Dr. Sunda obtained his Doctor of Dental Surgery from The University of Western Ontario.

Dr. Sunda then spent 1 year in a general practice residency at the Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo N.Y. He then spent one year as an attending at the same residency program. In 2005, Dr. Sunda spent 1 year as an oral surgery intern in N.Y. at St. Vincents Catholic Medial Center Brooklyn-Queens. He then completed his oral surgery training in 2010 from Brookdale University Hospital in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Dr. Sunda is currently in private practice and works in the undergraduate dental clinic at the University of Western Ontario dental clinic as a part time clinical instructor.

In his spare time, Dr. Sunda enjoys traveling, sports and the outdoors. 

Dr. Shabaz Sandhu, BSc, DDS, FRCD(C) 

Dr. Sandhu is a Board Certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon and a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada. He graduated from the University of Western Ontario with a Bachelor of Science (Honors) in Biophysics and then went on to complete his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Western Ontario, Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry.  

He completed his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency at the University of California San Francisco (Fresno).  Dr. Sandhu has extensive training in the treatment of maxillofacial trauma, facial reconstruction and bone grafting, orthognathic surgery, head and neck pathology, placement of dental implants, removal of impacted wisdom teeth and intravenous (IV) anesthesia.  He is a certified provider of advanced cardiac life support, advanced trauma life support, pediatric life support and all levels of anesthesia including deep sedation and general anesthesia.

Dr. Avedis Encioiu (DDS, Dip Endo, FRCD(C))

Dr. Encioiu is our Endodontist who specializes in root canals. Originally from Toronto, he graduated with distinction from York University with a major in Psychology. In 2008, Dr. Encioiu obtained his Doctor of Dental Surgery from The University of Toronto.

The same year, Dr. Encioiu embarked on a two year specialty program at Temple University in Philadelphia in Endodontics.

Dr. Encioiu is a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada, a member of The American Association of Endodontists and an associate instructor in the faculty of Endodontics at The University of Toronto.

The author of numerous publications, Dr. Encioiu has presented at major dental conferences including both the American and International Associations of Dental Research.

In his spare time, Dr. Encioiu enjoys traveling, sports and the outdoors.
